My 1st guitar has now been completed!!!!! Click here if you want to hear her. I've left out the fancy bits for now, I am still getting used to the slightly wider fretboard. The mic only cost ?15, so it really does not justice to the tone... It really is alive. The mic doesn't seem to pick up the crispness of the trebles and the growling boom of the bass...bahhhhh... The top is lightly braced, and seems more responsive than my Avalon. Well guys, all I can say is THANKS SO MUCH for your help, advice and patience, especially to Russel Rose, for his invaluable help and resources, and to Martin Edwards who jolly well inspired and encouraged me to do all this stuff in the first place. it's all your fault, Martin.... It's a flipping milestone, innit?? Whew!! Apart from a few finishing issues, my guitar is very playable!!!Sam Price38976.756724537

Right then, y'll screaming for pics, so you can have a guffaw at a n00b's expense The finish ain't very heavy, and I think I'd go for tone over finish anyday. I have played hundreds of guitars, and this little instrument really kicks serious bottom. Okay then, I'm available for work as a luthier's apprentice, I'll just sleep in the corner of the shop on the dustpile...no seriously, this is a vocation I'd love to explore fully.... ...kinda infectious, this Luthier's bug, huh? Sam, Very nice. Well done. Love the rosette. With the Celtic symbol for infinity on the headstock I assume this will be the first of very many.

Thats a very nice guitar Sam!The rosette is especially cool looking,I love it. You know,I did the same thing on my 1st guitar.Left to many open pores.I should have filled them but I just kept spraying until they were gone! . Surprisingly it didn't affect the tone too much with a 1/4 inch of lacquer on it !

Thank you, everyone. Well, I learnt a lot. Now I can read the Cumpiano book at leisure instead of skim reading everything, because I feel I understand a lot more of the techniques. The top already has a few dings... As per Russell's finishing scedule, only 5 coats of Danish oil are on the top to allow the tone a lot of freedom. That is the price I have to pay, but it's worth it. I have had and played a lot of "pretty" guitars with thick mirror-like laquer, and now I am more set on tonal issues. This baby will have to be handled carefully. Next time I would like to try FP.

So... MANY choices.. A harp guitar A Celtic harp A bouzouki A guitar that ain't a dreadnought... or an acoustic bass... Seeing as the harp guitar will stretch my abilities somewhat, and I have not yet found a manufactured acoustic bass that seems any good, and at the moment I am not GASing for a new guitar (yet) I'm prolly going to make a guitar bouzouki. SO when money is no object (it is at the moment), I'll get cracking with the second build. Sam Price38977.6407060185

Sam! Your kidding! Your guitar looks great! I was playing a Taylor a while back that had a flat finish which I thought looked great, but they fill the heck out of them. Yours actually looks like wood! I mean, I like the shiny and I like the flat. I think both are great, but one thing it's a lot easier to cover a lot of mistakes under a heavy coat of nitro, KTM and epoxy. I wouldn't be ashamed of that kind of work, especially for a first.
